FAQ - All About Hair Toners!

FAQ - All About Hair Toners! | Tint Department

WHAT’S A TONER?
Toners are used to refresh colour and/or get rid of unwanted tones in your hair.
When you hear the words toner, gloss or glaze these are all mainly referring to the same thing!

WHAT TYPES OF TONER ARE THERE?
Tint Department sells a lot of different toning products! Here’s a breakdown.
Wella Colour Charm Permanent Toner: These are perfect for level 9-10 blondes looking to reduce unwanted brassiness in their hair.

Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Colour: These demi colours can be used as toners for all levels of hair, or for anyone looking for an alternative to permanent colour.

HOW LONG WILL TONER LAST IN MY HAIR?
Lasting power depends greatly a few things: hair porosity, how often the hair is washed, which products are used, how often heat is used etc.
Typically a toner will last anywhere from 3-6 weeks before it needs to be refreshed.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY TONER LAST LONGER?
There’s a lot you can do to make your toner last longer!

  • After rinsing out the toner, try to avoid washing your hair for as long as possible (2-3 days). This will give the hair cuticle a chance to smooth back down after being opened by the developer and ‘lock’ in the colour.
  • Use in-shower toning products. Purple or blue shampoos and masks and Keracolor Color + Clenditioner are perfect for this.
  • Reduce the heat on your hair from both water temperature and styling products.
  • Use professional hair care, as supermarket brands contain harsh detergents and will strip colour from the hair.
