How To Use Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent

The Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent are amazing demi permanent hair colours that are professional quality and available for at home and in salon use.

After reading this simple guide, you’ll know exactly how to use the Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Colours at home.

The Essentials

First, you need to make sure you have everything you need to tone your hair at home. You will need:

  • Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Colour
  • Developer
  • Tint Bowl (recommended as this is a cream formula)
  • Tint Brush
  • Gloves
  • Processing Cap (optional, but keeps colour from dripping)

How Many Tubes Of Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Colour Will I Need?

One tube is plenty for those with hair that touches your shoulders and in fine/medium thickness - in fact you may be able to get two uses per tube! With colour, you really want to make sure you fully saturate your hair - this will ensure you don’t get any patchiness. For thicker or longer hair, you will need to use the whole tube or (in the case of very thick, long hair) two tubes.

Which Developer To Use With Demi Permanent Hair Colour?

Demi Permanent Hair Colour needs to be mixed with developer. Developer (sometimes also referred to as peroxide) is used to activate your hair colour. Without it the colour will do absolutely nothing!

You want to mix your Demi Permanent Hair Colour with a low strength developer. I recommend 5 Vol (1.5%) as this is the most gentle developer. You can also mix your Demi Permanent Hair Colour with 10 Vol, which is also a gentle option but can lighten hair very slightly.

At Tint Department we use and recommend Hi Lift Developers and have found these give perfect, consistent results. The Hi Lift Developers are Australian made and are much more gentle on your scalp than others we’ve tried.

How Much Developer To Use With Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent?

You need double the amount of developer to demi permanent colour. For example, if you use one 57g tube of Wella Demi Permanent, you will need 114g of developer. To make it easy you can use a spoon to measure this: one spoon of Wella Demi Colour to two spoons of developer (and repeat until you have enough mixture for your hair length/type).

One bottle of Hi Lift Developer will be enough for one and a half tubes of Wella Demi Colour.

How To Apply Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Hair Colour?

Here are your easy to follow instructions for the Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Hair Colours:

Step 1: Put on gloves.

Step 2: In a tint bowl, mix one part Wella Demi Colour to two parts developer (this means double the amount of developer to colour). Ensure you thoroughly mix to combine - you can use your tint brush for mixing.

Step 3: Ensure your hair is combed through so it’s tangle free. You can apply this colour to dry or damp hair.

Step 4: Apply using a tint brush to the back sections of your hair first, before moving to the front sections. Your hair around your face is usually the most porous, so apply to this section last.

Step 5: After you’ve applied your colour, pop on a processing cap to avoid drips.

Step 6: Allow your colour to process (sit in your hair) for up to 20 minutes.

Step 7: After 20 minutes, thoroughly rinse the colour out with lukewarm water and style as normal (heat protector is a must).

Do You Apply Wella Demi Colour on Dry or Wet Hair?

You can apply the Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Hair Colour to dry or damp (not wet) hair. I personally recommend applying your Demi Permanent Hair Colour to towel dried, damp hair, as it applies easier which allows for a more even result and will help the colour absorb more.

How Long To Leave Wella Demi Permanent Hair Colour On?

Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Hair Colour should be left on for 20 minutes (this is called processing). Letting your colour process for the full 20 minutes is ideal, but check every 5 minutes or so to see how it’s going. Pay close attention to your ends if they’re damaged, as these can absorb the colour quicker.

There you have it! That’s everything you need to know to colour your hair at home using the Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent Colours. Don’t forget to take a before and after photo - I can’t wait to see your results!
